Don't get the Cannibal perk. It's near useless, only gives a small amount of health. It only helped me in Andale to make the cannibals like me.

little known fact: the people in Andale ate the little kid's father (James or something... the little kid who you can tell to run away from his mother) from Rivet city
also the perk will let you run into "people" out in the wasteland who will sell you "strange meat" without the perk they will attempt to kill you and then make some more "strange meat"
Do they give strange candy?
Yeah, it melts in your mouth and gets you ostracized by society

Haha. It really is useless. I kinda had Star Paladin Cross as a companion for a while. I don't recommend eating someone in front of her and expecting her to stay.
And it IS fun to chop people up and eat them. That one hooker you lead to Rivet City. Well I took her there. And when she got to the bridge and started walking off I used the ripper to chop her up then I ate her. Mmmm tasty.
