Weird battery behavior

I hate to be that noob but....

My PSP was dropped onto blacktop from 5 feet in my dad's hands. The battery cover flew off and the battery itself flew out. Now I can only use my PSP if it's plugged into the wall. When the PSP is off (and the battery is in), the charge light is on. However, when I open Battery Information, the Charge Level, Hours Left, and Battery Status fields have a dash (-) in them, and the Power Source is external. Could this be a broken wire connection or something more serious?

I can't send it in because it has 5.00 M33-6 firmware and the warranty sticker was ripped off by the previous owner. Do I risk opening it up and trying to fix it? Thanks to whoever answers.

Try a new battery, if that isn't it than your I think your kinda fucked.

Yeah I have the same problem... its not the psp its the battery... I was like wtf when I found out...but anyways you should get a new battery.

No it isn't- I put my friend's battery in mine and my battery in his PSP; same results, and my battery worked in his PSP. I'm gonna take it apart, I'll get pics up if I can find my camera.

Just a (final) update- now it doesn't work at all. I'm selling it and my games on my friend's ebay account. Don't worry- I bought the lot from my cousin for 60 bucks :biggrin: i'll probably try to find another one

im sorry, but bad move on your part, if you have no experience with technology, which im not sayen you dont cuz idk, when you did open it up, you wouldent know what to look for, it would probly be somthing like what you said earlier, a broken connection from the battery port to the rest of the psp, since the battery port is seprate from the AV power source, it would still of worked just like you said it did, so there was nothing you could do on your part unless you knew a repair shop close to you (Not a sony repair shop just like if the local raido shak did repairs)

True thing, Skull, if I didn't have any experience. Good thing for me that I've been getting into hardware for a couple of years. My problem isn't inexperience- it's horrible luck. I couldn't find what the problem was, and I ended up accidentally ripping something out. And at that point, I was fed up with it all and just put it back together. AND I STILL CAN'T FIND MY CAMERA!!

To make things worse, I just did an ebay search on PSPs and PSP games. UMDs are worth dust because of ISOs (duh), so I'd be better off trading them in at Gamestop or something. PSPs average 30 bucks broken. Well, it's something.
