August 20th 2009 Updates

Restored
I've restored us to about a week before the attack just for security measures. It seems some posts didn't complete because the server load was so high, so most would lead to blank pages. Everything is back to normal so no further restoring is needed. So feel free to post back any posts you may have lost. Some of you may need to upload your avatars and signatures again.

If you were V.I.P. and you were removed thanks to this restore, please PM me the transaction number from your receipt so I can give you back VIP.

Members
You may have noticed we lost about 12,000 members. This was done on purpose and is a good thing. I have only removed those members that have less than 10 posts and have not been active in 60 days. At first I made it so that members with less than 1 post were removed, but that only removed about 4,000 members.

Threads
I have removed over 11,000 old threads that have not been replied to in 6 months. This should not only reduce our server load, but also increase our servers speed as google is not constantly indexing these files that no one any longer reads. It could also prevent some people from using out of date tutorials.


Note: All of this is necessary to reduce the server load. Google is still indexing these old topics that no one views anymore. So google is just adding additional load to the server by indexing those posts that no one reads. Most are out of date and an up to date topic had already been posted. I've been wanting to clean up the forums a bit anyway.

Delete a year and further? And then were good :) I will only lose like 100 posts.

Nah it was more than just closed posts. The whole point is to lower post counts. The more posts unactive posts we get rid of the less the server has to keep up with. I've remove topics that have not be posted in the past half year.

Server load is not how fast a server goes, it's how much stress it's under.

Alright, your posts have not changed :( :( :( that is not fair. lollolzors. my vbux is all safe though. im almost on the leaderboard without cheatingful help mods names I will not name ( Cannon, BB, AB, Whoever else )

I lost 2000 :*( but who carez. Its posts. You can make them back up. The server can't run efficiently with all these posts.

Correction. It could function fine if all the posts are active, but with older posts that have not been posted to in awhile they are not cached and therefor when called upon it takes additional queries to retrieve the threads and posts.

Couldn't you just create a script to post in all the old threads then delete the post right after to make them active but not bump them to the top?

VBPlaza isn't a big issue. It's the equivalent of loading the homepage.
