Needs something...

I feel it needs something... I just made a zoomed effect to make it look like he's running fast, but it feels bland... Also, my fucking PS won't let me use text...

Gradient maps on what? The background or sonic?

just start adding them and messing with

some smudge,a c4d but lower opacity,borders and lol great idea on the blur u have good imagination

Get cs4 portable, that's what I have and it works great,

and I'd say maybe duplicate the render, do a TINY but of smudging on the back render and soft erase the edges of the top one, maybe that'd look cool.
