i don't think you can, I have a 4GB MS and its slow as fuck i think it because they have alot of memory (i think)
or it might be a fake memory card.... :)
u can tell if u press triangle on the photo, music, or video icon in the XMB then scroll over to information and at the bottom it should say if magic gate is supported. if its says no then its a fake memory card.
Firmwares running higher than 3.71 use a newer version of pspfatmod.prx. In 3.80 Sony heavily optimized it so that anything higher than a 4 GB Memory Stick would run CSOs slowly.

If you want to run backups of your games either be sure they are ISO and NOT CSO or install the fatmsmod. Since the fatmsmod.prx is so heavily optimized, it can't decompress CSOs fast enough to server to the screen. So if they are just in ISO format they run fine.
Same thing happened to me, I had to format my memory card (8g) from my computer and then formatted form my psp. Then it got faster.
Also, mms are slow anyway.
In order of speed:
-CompactFlash (who the hell uses it now anyway)
-SD
-MMS
I still use compactflash....from 1953 or something like that.
Yea, convert all CSOs to ISOs. You will be running everything quicker than a bunny rabbit.
The menu that you press select to get should allow you to accelerate memory card reading speed as well as over clock the system
