PS3 is a great system but personally, I don't like it for online gaming. If you like chilling with your friends and playing multiplayer games, the PS3 only has 1 or 2 good titles. (Exclusive only of course, you can always play CoD). It really all depends on what kind of gamer you are. If you are a multiplayer gamer, see how many of your friends have a PS3 that way you won't be the only one to have it.
