Dma Help

I just started coding on this game and i am having a lot of trouble finding codes on this game that are not dma. how do you un-dma a code?
i have tried a few methods but they didn't work here is an example

then i went in and i look for a value that jumped to a different one. it was a "j"

all it did was just freeze my ass.
