Refurbished ones and core systems tend to break after an average life span of 6 - 10 months. Call Microsoft to see if you still have a warrenty (hopefully you have not voided it, that is if you flashed it). The good thing about the Xbox is if it breaks its free to send it in (As long as you have warrenty of course).
I have a warranty until 4/1/09 :D I registered it on their site and they are sending me the box now to put it in.

As much as I love my Xbox, I don't play it as much as half the people out there. I'll play CoD:WaW for like an hour then give it to my brother and I'm done for the night. Other days I'll play like 10 songs on GH3 and a couple matches or maybe an hour of CoD. But thats it. The most I've ever played is when I liked halo 3, I played through like 6 levels in the campaign on my brothers 360.
