First create a new project 400x400 pixels. Make sure your colours are black and white like this:
Make a cloud render (Filter > Render > Clouds) and then auto colour it (Image > Ajustments > Auto colour) it should look somthing along the lines of this:
Now click Filter > Distort > Polar cooardinates and use "Polar to rectangular" as the setting.
Flip your canvas 90 degrees counter-clockwise (Image > Rotate canvas > 90 degrees CCW).
Add wind to your project (Filter > Stylize > Wind) and use "From left" and "Stagger" as the settings.
Now take out your soft brush and brush the left side of the canvas about 2 cm's think (3/4 inch).
Flip your canvas again but this time 90 degrees CLOCK WISE.
Now click Filter > Distort > Polar cooardinates but thuis time select "Rectangular to polar" as the setting.
This is what your canvas should look like now:
Get your lasso tool out (Press L) and outline the part of the explosion you want like seen in the image below:
Now right click and inverse your selection, then right click again and feather it 15 pixels.
Fill this selection in with black to complete your explosion.
To add "Firey" colour to this just click the appointed tool in the image and select the gradient map option.
Now its time to customize your colours! Make a redish colour on the right side and a yellowish colour on the right. I will let you do this yourself.
