well you need an intel mac for the SDK, then in order to build the app for the actual device you need to spend $99 to get the thing to build it (which my dad bought, he has 3 apps up on the app store)
To make an app you need to know objective-c, which is a pain in the freaking ass!!!! (it gets very complicated at times, but other then that I kinda prefer it over C)
edit: and maybe I should mention that when you pay $99 you also get access to the 3.0 beta, both the firmware and the SDK, it's a shame 3.0 only installs on iPhones/iTouches that are registered with the developer program. And yes I have tried 3.0, and it is FAR BETTER THEN 2.2!!!! But this app here is compiled for 2.1 I believe so it works on everything 2.1 and above
