Instead of writting this :

lui t1 , $0000
ori t1 , t1 , $0009

You can do this :

ori t1 , zero , $0009
OR
addiu t1 , zero , $0009

Easier & Faster

About hook :
0x0a440000 => j $09100000

09100000 - 08800000 = 00900000

The routine starts at 0x00900000 so it's correct.
